How to clean your jewelry and keep it like new

If you have rings you haven’t taken off in a while or necklaces you may notice they’ve lost their sparkle because of soap, hand lotion or dust which leave a film that dulls the sparkle of gemstones, and sterling silver gets black, it is time to do something about it. Should you go to your jewelry store? I don’t think so, it is not that difficult to do it yourself. Here are some easy, do-it-yourself tips that I apply myself on my jewelry. Cleaning diamonds Diamond can lose some of its gorgeous shine if it’s not regularly cleaned. The best mixture of cleaning solution for diamonds is ammonia or mild dish detergent with water. The ratio of this solution should be a quarter cup of ammonia to one cup of lukewarm water. After mixing the solution, simply let the piece of diamond jewelry soak in the solution for 20-30 minutes. Once this time is complete, gently brush the jewelry with a soft toothbrush. Make sure to avoid brushing the diamond too vigorously so it doesn’t move from its ...

Life is too short to wear boring jewelry

Running in the morning to work,  to a meeting or to a coffee with a  friend?  Your clothes are on, hair is done, make up is done, you look in the mirror and decide that you need a necklace.  You grab one, don't like it, another one, neither, finally you grab your faithful (the one you always wear.)you wish you picked something different but WHAT ? I picked a few styles and lengths from RZ Jewelry Design to go with collared blouse. Long pendant necklace short pearl necklace Top three pictures are to show what celebrities wear with THEIR  collared blouse. If you leave your top button shirt or two buttons undone choose a short pearl or lightweight necklace for classic look while chunkier style gives a cool, youthful look.  If you button up to the top choose a chunky style on top. I like wearing a long necklace as well with my collared blouse and a jacket. We often face the dilemma of Go long? Go choker? Go statement? Movie stars, politic...

Wish you could look taller?

I wish I could be taller.....  This post is not about jewelry but something I felt like writing especially as being a "petite"person. I dont have a magic trick to actually make you "grow"taller but at least I have a few easy styling tips and tricks that will make you feel you have grown taller. I can say that they work for me so why not for you? Dresses with slits: Allow your leg to peek out even if it is the slightest bit when you wear a mini, midi,or maxi dress. Your legs will look instantly longer without exposing too much. Nude Heels: Heels grant you a few more centimeters  of height, and nude shoes will elongate the lines of your legs and feet, whether you are wearing a mini skirt or boyfriend jeans! Wear one color head-to-toe: I love dressing in a single tone which gives the illusion of length. This trend is cairtainly on this season. If you dont like the pastel colors, try  blue or burgundy. Flare pants or jeans: Flares make everyone look ta...

Should I wear accessories to work?

Accessorizing may be the last thing on your mind when your alarm clock rings, but pair of gorgeous earrings can negate bad hair days, elevate modest outfits and actually it is one of the easiest ways to dress up an otherwise drab outfit. But many hesitate between right or wrong accessories when going to work, it is one of a common question on a woman’s working mind. Wearing the right outfit and accessories for the "right" office look is important. It sounds simple but believe me when you get up in a hurry in the morning and have to go through your closet for the right things to wear ain’t an easy task. I would like to mention a few engagements most of us have at the office: a regular day at work, special conferences, office parties and even an interview.  MY solid rule, wear what suits you, feel comfortable and confident, keep it simple and elegant. Here are some tips to get you the right office look and a few examples from my collections: A day at work:  You can...

Do You care when someone copies your style

I recently noticed headline after headline how Megan and Kate have similar clothes in different occasions, I became fascinated with the concept of “copying” (particularly outfits) and how my fellow adults, felt about it.  When I was at school I didn’t like my friends wearing the same clothes as I did, I liked to wear different clothes, I never wanted them to know where I bought them. Today celebrities sometimes wear the same, for example Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton… do they deliberately sometimes dress alike? In July, both wore yellow dress just a week apart.  In October, they wore similar maroon polka dotted dresses a few days apart.  On another occasion they had both burgundy looks on the exact same day.  It could be a coincidence but was it really? Taking into consideration how much thought goes into what the royals wear, that is quite unlikely. Is it a media strategy or are the two ladies just copying each other? As a youngster I w...

Fashion Forward Not Age Forward

You Want To Be Fashion Forward Not Age Forward Not sure how to stay fashion forward without aging forward? Accessories can make or break our outfit. The right accessory can add that extra pop of color or texture you need to pull an outfit together, and the wrong one can make even the most perfect clothing combination look horrible. But that's not the worse, they can actually make you look older and that's not what we are going for when we get dressed in the morning. Well, for starters you will want to stay away from the matched sets of the past. You should mix metals, textures, and pieces together for a younger vibe. Here are some more tips to help you defy the years. Necklaces Chunky necklaces light up your complexion and bring sparkle back to your eyes-especially in mixes of pearls, beads and stones that reflect light. A bib necklace that goes to mid-chest can even disguise sun-damage and wrinkly neck. If you have a big or saggy chest, a short chunky necklace can re...

A piece of Jewelry

Drinking coffee and planning this week's blog, my mind kept returning to my friend's story about breaking in her house when all her jewelry was stolen. She was so emotional about her jewelry which made me realized even more how jewelry is weighted with meaning. It doesn't matter what it is, there is likely to be some sentimental or emotional reason you wear a particular thing. Those are pieces that can never be replaced not because what she had was particularly valuable (it was not), but because most of what was in there carried so much emotional weight. When you put on a piece of jewelry, you probably focus on how it looks with your outfit or what it says about your style. While jewelry has always been a way to adorn the body, it also has significant meaning and symbolism. The meaning of jewelry varies based on the piece, materials used and even the country. Whatever you wear, a piece of jewelry, fake or real, expensive or not so much, can really finish your look and...
