The "Good Wife" - are you chic at work?

When do you know you are obsessed with a show on TV?  When I have to watch it every night I know I am. That’s where I am at right now with "The Good Wife".  I developed a kind of curiosity of what the  female  characters wear and their accessories. It is interesting to watch how Daniel Lawson developed the looks for each character, including the jewelry they wear and it is amazing how much thought goes into the jewelry on this show, even for the background players. I admit I am a fan of this show so I love seeing the different female characters and their very distinct styles. They all work in a law firm which is known not as the most creative place of fashion and yet all manage to look stylish and individualistic, as well as professional. Alicia Florrick, a politician’s wife played by  Julianna Margulies, going back to work after a long break. While her husband is in prison, she is rediscovering her individual identity.  At the law firm, she...

A first-timer’s guide: how to buy jewelry on Etsy

Did you know that Etsy is a great place to look at handmade and vintage jewelry?  I would like to give you some tips about buying on Etsy since I am an Etsy seller and I have a shop on line.  Etsy is an online marketplace where people can sell things handmade things, vintage things, anything, really. You do have to be careful... don’t forget that anyone can sign up to sell on Etsy, and you’ll never really know what you’re getting it until you hold it in your hand. There is lots of stuff for sale on Etsy and you have to scroll through it to get to the treasures - but the treasures are worth it, and the hurt is part of the fun. Use always keywords to narrow down the search when you’re looking for something specific ("multi strands brown beaded necklace” is better than "brown beaded necklace").  You can use the category filters on the right-hand side to limit your results – for example, you can choose to see only vintage items, and from those ...

Wish you could look taller?

I wish I could be taller.....  This post is not about jewelry but something I felt like writing especially as being a "petite"person. I dont have a magic trick to actually make you "grow"taller but at least I have a few easy styling tips and tricks that will make you feel you have grown taller. I can say that they work for me so why not for you? Dresses with slits: Allow your leg to peek out even if it is the slightest bit when you wear a mini, midi,or maxi dress. Your legs will look instantly longer without exposing too much. Nude Heels: Heels grant you a few more centimeters  of height, and nude shoes will elongate the lines of your legs and feet, whether you are wearing a mini skirt or boyfriend jeans! Wear one color head-to-toe: I love dressing in a single tone which gives the illusion of length. This trend is cairtainly on this season. If you dont like the pastel colors, try  blue or burgundy. Flare pants or jeans: Flares make everyone look ta...

A piece of Jewelry

Drinking coffee and planning this week's blog, my mind kept returning to my friend's story about breaking in her house when all her jewelry was stolen. She was so emotional about her jewelry which made me realized even more how jewelry is weighted with meaning. It doesn't matter what it is, there is likely to be some sentimental or emotional reason you wear a particular thing. Those are pieces that can never be replaced not because what she had was particularly valuable (it was not), but because most of what was in there carried so much emotional weight. When you put on a piece of jewelry, you probably focus on how it looks with your outfit or what it says about your style. While jewelry has always been a way to adorn the body, it also has significant meaning and symbolism. The meaning of jewelry varies based on the piece, materials used and even the country. Whatever you wear, a piece of jewelry, fake or real, expensive or not so much, can really finish your look and...
